Study: Vocal patterns in Ndebele music 01

Study by:

Donald Swanepoel

The vocal patterns in Ndebele music showcase a vibrant cultural heritage marked by communal engagement, intricate rhythms, and a profound link to both historical and contemporary traditions.

This spectrogram study seeks to explore the visual patterns of rhythmic complexity, various polyphonic textures, and call-and-response vocals.

The end goal is to translate these patterns and assign each element to a different geometric object, similar to those found in traditional Ndebele artworks, such as those by Dr. Esther Mahlangu.
